The Vascular Cognitive Impairment Genetics Consortium (VCIGC)
The VCIGC was originally formed between 2010-2013 and consisted of a collection of DNA samples from patients with vascular cognitive impairment and elderly people without dementia, from the UK, Italy and Finland. We published a case-control genetic association study that verified two genes we had previously reported (http://dx.doi.org/10.3233/JAD-121069) to be associated with a greater risk of VCI. The paper can be accessed on the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease website: http://dx.doi.org/10.3233/JAD-150862

Recently, we have been recruiting more collaborators to the VCIGC to increase the number of VCI samples for a genome wide association study that will look at many genes. We now have over 3000 samples in total from; China, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Italy, Mexico, Poland, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, UK and USA. We are currently preparing the DNA samples for study in the autumn.
